I think they'll either follow Apple by open sourcing some very low levels parts of the OS while keeping the rest of the stack proprietary, or open sourcing a cut-down Windows RT for Raspberry Pi or some such.

I don't know if it's a troll, but it is terribly written. Seems he had real trouble padding it up to 500 words.

I really envy Mac users and their Ars Technica OSX reviews. Are there any Linux reviewers that can match that level of detail and writing quality?

As a Microsoft Word replacement I'd recommend LyX instead of writing LaTeX directly.
